Welcome to the First Open Heart Society

The First Open Heart Society was formed in 1973. The main objective was to provide support to those patients about to undergo heart surgery by those who have already walked the path.
This Society consists of people in the Victoria area and other communities in British Columbia who have an interest in the cardiac field of health care and prevention.

Support for Children

Special attention is given to the needs of the families of children who are born with heart defects. The Society sponsors those who may need travel and /or special services not available locally.

Information and Accommodation

The Society provides information and, through the Victoria Heart House, accommodation for spouse and families who live outside the Victoria area.

Society Funding

The Society is a volunteer organization and does not have grant affiliation with any other agencies (government or other). The patient care and public service functions are funded by private contributions and members donations. The members hold annual Walk for Hearts in various communities to raise money and provide interested people with an opportunity to participate in a fun and challenging way. The extent of our endeavours is established yearly and reflects the contributions that are received and the level of participation of interested people.
